Accounts payable at a downtown business received a water bill recently a day after it was due. I called and was told that there was a problem in Atlanta with the USPS mail.
There is always a problem with the mail, they are no longer dependable to say the least.
I asked if the late fee would be waived and was told no because we knew the bill was due. I asked how am I supposed to know the amount and was told that I should have called. Is she kidding me?
She also said that the invoices were mailed out on the first, yet the postage meter has March 4. This seems like a way to scam the City of Aiken residents and businesses out of money.
The late fee for our billing is $4.21. If just 1,000 people had to pay this late fee, that is a surplus of over $4,000 the City of Aiken gets to keep.
So much for trusting our government entities.
