Masks will no longer be required at one of Aiken County's largest employers after updated guidance.

Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, or SRNS, recently rescinded its mask mandate for employees, based on a new metric from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The national public health agency now classifies each county in the United States by "community level," which is determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

"(Aiken's) community level is currently low and the CDC guidance supports no mask when the level is low or medium," Barbara Smoak, media relations, wrote in an email.
