2nd suspect charged in Jamilla Smith case

A second suspect connected to the missing person case of Jamilla Smith is in custody.

Bryan Alexander Hampton Jr., 35, of Augusta surrendered to Aiken County investigators a little bit after 3 p.m. Friday, according to a news release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Hampton is facing charges of accessory after the fact to murder and is the second person to be charged in Smith’s disappearance.

Smith’s ex-boyfriend, 34-year-old Daniel Harmon, was charged with murder Dec. 23. Harmon has been in the custody of police since Dec. 5 after a stand-off with police on the 400 block of Carpentersville Road while police were trying to serve him with a second-degree domestic violence warrant.

Harmon is facing a kidnapping charge in connection to the case.

Smith, 30, is a mother of two children. She was last heard from her family Dec. 2 and was originally reported missing with Harmon on Dec.4.

Capt. Eric Abdullah with the sheriff’s office said police are continuing to investigate the case.

Woman arrested in stabbing death

FLORENCE — A 48-year-old woman was arrested April 21 in a stabbing that left one dead.

Latonia Denise Durant of Darlington is charged with murder, according to a press release from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

She is accused of stabbing Lorenzo Antwane Durant, 38, with a knife after a verbal and physical altercation. The incident occurred April 20 on Price Road in Florence County.

Lorenzo Durant was Latonia Durant’s “estranged husband,” according to a warrant.

Latonia Durant was standing outside the building with another man, Marvin Godbolt, when authorities arrived, according to an incident report from FCSO. Both told a deputy they thought he fell and hit his head on furniture.

The deputy saw the victim lying on the floor in the home in a puddle of blood. EMS and other first responders found a stab wound in his neck.

Man fatally shot by police in Easley

EASLEY — A man was shot and killed by police at a Walmart near Highway 123 after a reported disturbance in the store the night of April 21.

Easley police officers responded to the Walmart on Rolling Hills Circle after receiving a call about a man damaging the firearms counter and attempting to steal ammunition, Easley Police Lt. Ashley Anderson told The Post and Courier.

Anderson said that officers confronted the man, later identified as 33-year-old Shawn Elrod, around 7 p.m. and tried to de-escalate the situation.
