Surely there are trees in Heaven

God knows how we love them so

It’s hard not to respect a tree,

our majestic neighbors all around us

Our familiar friends who share our planet

standing tall and proud, inspiring us

to stay grounded and steadfast

Find a tree in the forest or in your backyard

Sit beneath its shade and listen

to the birds in the trees calling out

and the squirrels cracking nuts,

the rustling of their leaves as the wind blows

I wouldn’t know the value of a tree

What’s the worth of a soul at peace,

or a quiet moment surrounded by trees

reflecting on life and remembering the past

Trees show us that change is good

as they drop their leaves in the Fall

Like letting go of their children

so that new life can begin again

As tree leaves change colors in the Fall,

we are reminded of the beauty

and color in our own lives

Artists and photographers capture this so well.

Surely there are trees in Heaven

God knows how we love them so
