The Aiken County Board of Education discussed Superintendent King Laurence's contract during its executive session following Tuesday’s meeting.

As a result of Laurence’s overall excellent evaluation, board member Patrice Rhinehart-Jackson made a motion that the board authorize and execute an amendment to Laurence’s employment contract with the district.

“A one-year extension to his contract from June 30, 2024 previously approved by the board at the board meeting on Aug. 24,2021, an increase in his salary to $215,000,” Rhinehart-Jackson said.

The board approved the changes to his contract unanimously, and the changes are currently in effect.

When Laurence was hired in February 2020, his contract called for a three-year term of employment at an annual salary of $195,000.

“It’s been a pleasure and continues to be a pleasure to serve Aiken County public schools,” Laurence said in August. “We probably have one of the most supportive boards in the state and I appreciate that we have a team of leaders and educators here in Aiken County that are second to none.”

The next school board meeting will be held Oct. 26 starting at 6 p.m. The board meetings are held at 1000 Brookhaven Drive and are also streamed on Aiken County Public Schools website.
