The Aiken County Sheriff's Office charged a North Augusta man Thursday in connection to a domestic incident involving a 20-year-old woman.

Michael Warden Baker Jr., 36, is charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature; kidnapping; possession of a weapon during a violent crime; and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of felony, according to jail records.

Deputies responded to a North Augusta fire station on West Five Notch Road around 8:47 a.m. Thursday and met with the victim who claimed she was violently assaulted by the suspect during an altercation that began at her home on Cellus Park Road, according to the report.

The victim claimed she and the suspect got into a verbal argument when she brought a stray cat inside, which made the suspect angry and he "threw (the cat) against the wall," the report states.

She said the suspect choked her and threw a beer bottle at a mirror before taking a "handful" of prescription medication, grabbing a pistol and threatened to shoot himself and her, according to the report.

The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and "pulled the trigger, but the gun was empty and didn't fire," the report states.

The victim said he then picked up an AK-47, pointed it at her and said, "It's automatic, and if I keep going it will turn you into a hamburger," according to the report.

Some time after that, the suspect was driving the victim to a friend's house when he pulled over to apologize; the victim said she tried to get out of the car, which made him angry, and he forced her back into the vehicle, the report states.

The victim said the suspect "had her with one hand while swerving all over the road and slamming on the gas, and brakes, in an attempt to keep her in the vehicle," the report states.

She claimed she tried to jump out of the moving vehicle, when the suspect said, "Want out, get the (expletive) out," and pushed her out the open door, according to the report.

An unknown woman saw the victim on the side of the road, stopped and took her to the fire station to get help, the report states.

Investigators tracked Baker down and arrested him, taking him to the Aiken County detention center, where he was still being held Friday afternoon.
