A late score with just 45 seconds left on the fourth-quarter clock made things interesting in Thursday nights battle between Barnwell and Williston-Wlko, but the last-minute touchdown was not enough for the Blue Devils, as Barnwell scored an 18-15 victory in the season opener for both teams.Williston-Elko led at the half after Charles Melton found the end zone from two yards out with 2:01 on the second-quarter clock and William Shites added the extra point. But when Barnwell finally got on the board with a John McCay run with 4:11 left in the third it wouldnt stop. That run sparked a string of 18 unaswered points, with Kory Sanders 32-yard interception and Hason Williams 20-yard run putting the visitors up 18-7.Wilbur Greens 18-yard touchdown strike to Chris Johnson and the two-point pass that followed pulled the Blue Devils within three, but the score came much too late as Barnwell simply ran out the clock to secure the win.Johnson led the Williston-Elko rushing attack with 67 yards on nine carries, while Ronnie Cave gained 50 yards on the ground on 12 totes for Barnwell. Johnson was also the games passing leader with 71 yards through the air on 6-for-18 passing. McCay, completed half of his four passes for 55 yards.
