The North Augusta football team is ranked eighth in the latest Class AAAA S.C. Prep Football Media Poll.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 7-2 overall with a 44-0 victory over Midland Valley on Friday. North Augusta will face Aiken this week and has a chance to to win a second consecutive region title.

Elsewhere, area teams stayed put for the most part in the media poll.

Region 5-AAA champion Strom Thurmond (8-2, 4-0) held on to the No. 5 spot after closing its regular season with a victory against Pelion. The Rebels now have two weeks to prepare for the postseason. Dillon is still the Unanimous No. 1 choice followed by Chapman, Chester and May River.

Barnwell is still the No. 2 ranked team in the Class AA poll ahead of its matchup with No. 4 Bamber-Ehrhardt. The winner of Friday's showdown will be the Region 5-AA champion. Abbeville maintained the top spot in the poll.

Wagener-Salley is also No. 2 in the Class A poll behind Lamar. The War Eagles earned one first-place vote. Blackville-Hilda came in at No. 6, and Ridge Spring-Monetta moved up one spot to No. 9.
