USC Aiken redshirt freshman women's soccer player Carly Minx claimed the USC Aiken athletic department Student-Athlete of the Week award Monday. Minx netted the deciding goal for the Pacers in their first victory of the 2009 season Friday against Anderson. Shortly after Alie Brady scored the first goal of the match for the Pacers in the 70th minute, Minx scored off her left foot to give the Pacers a 2-0 lead in the 77th minute. Anderson scored in the 88th minute on a Ashley Cotton goal, but the Pacer defense held to secure the Lady Pacers' first win of the 2009 season. The USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Week award, in its first year of existence, honors one individual from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. USC Aiken volleyball player Shannon Byers earned the honor Aug. 31.
