Dollard keeps USCA perfect at home arena

Josh Dollard obtained his second consecutive double-double and the 14th-ranked USC Aiken Pacers picked up a 68-53 victory over Lander before a crowd of 2,123 fans on Wednesday evening at the Convocation Center. Dollard finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds. His 13 boards in the contest were one short of his career-high. The Auburn transfer was one of four Pacers in double figures. Casey McMasters came off the Pacer bench for the second consecutive game to finish with 11 points. McMasters hit three 3-pointers from the right corner in the game to obtain nine of the 11 points. Senior forward Chris Commons led all players in the game with 17 points. Commons hit six shots from the field. He was 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He also had one block in the game. Pacer point guard Javonte Clanton finished in double figures once again, but his main effect in the game came on the defensive end, where he swatted a career-best three shots. Clanton also dropped five assists in the game and hit four field goals and four free throws to finish with 15 points. Senior forward Brian Egwuatu tied Clanton for game-best accolades in blocks with three on the evening. All of Egwuatu's blocks in the contest came in the first half. Three Bearcats concluded the loss in double figures with Houston Wright leading the way with 13 points. He hit five free throws in the game. The Pacers responded to Lander's early advances by ending the first half with a seven-point lead at 31-24. Brandon Shephard ended the first half showing why he has been receiving so much more playing time by the USCA coaching staff as he single-handedly drove down the lane for a driving lay-up with little time left in the first half. He was fouled in the act and hit on his free throw to finish with the 3-point play. The Pacers are still perfect in their home facility during the regular season since it opened its doors prior to the start of the 2007-08 season. USCA, which remained tied for the PBC lead with Augusta State, hits the road next for a league game against Columbus State on Saturday.
