Dogwood Stable was very active at the 2009 Ocala Breeders' Sales February Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training Sales as the stable purchased five horses for $545,000. The Aiken-based Thoroughbred racing operation was the third-leading buyer at the sale that was conducted on Feb. 17 at the Ocala, Fla. sales venue. They purchased a bay colt by Grade 1 winner Yes It's True from the consignment of Eisaman Equine for $225,000. "(Dogwood Stable president) Cot Campbell sure knows a good racehorse when he sees one," said Dr. Barry Eisaman, Eisaman Equine, at the sale in Ocala on Feb. 17. Two of the horses will be offered with four shares, and three of the horses with eight shares, which Dogwood has not done before, said Campbell. "The horses all trained this morning (Friday), and I was tickled to death," said Campbell. "They all got here Wednesday morning (Feb. 18), but today was the first day they trained. It's always important to see them go out there." One of the horses purchased was sired by a horse that raced in the Dogwood Stable colors, graded stakes winner and track record setter Heckle. The dark bay filly, who is a half-sister to stakes placed filly Tailbytherail was bought from the consignment of Niall Brennan for $60,000. "It means a lot (to buy a horse sired by Heckle), and some of the people who were involved with Heckle, will be involved with the filly I think," said Campbell. "He (Heckle) now stands in Louisiana. I'm pleased to have her, and she's a New York-bred." Dogwood also purchased an El Corredor colt for $100,000 from the consignment of Crupi's New Castle Farm, a Hennessy Colt from Eisaman Equine for $95,000 and a Songandaprayer colt from Nick de Meric's consignment for $65,000. "We've had some luck with Songandaprayer, and with Nick," said Campbell. "We bought Wallenda and Smok'n Frolic from Nick. I like that colt."
