Aranas, Raborn key Pacer comeback

Nick Aranas belted a two-run game-winning home run to right field in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift No. 8 USC Aiken to a 3-1 victory over Lynn on Sunday afternoon at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The two-run shot by Aranas capped off a three-run bottom portion of the eighth inning for the Pacers (3-4), who entered the bottom half of the stanza down 1-0 to Lynn's Knights. Cody McMorris began the inning for the Pacers with a walk, which followed with Alex Franklin's sacrifice bunt.  McMorris secured a spot on third base on a throwing error by Rouah, who was trying to pick off the fleet-footed McMorris at second base. Reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week Ken Raborn then hit an RBI single to center field to bring in McMorris. Aranas then took advantage of an Evan Ellison pitch as he lifted the baseball over the right-field fence for the eventual game-winner. Clayton Knight (1-0) closed the door on Lynn in the top half of the ninth as he struck out the first two batters, then after Lynn placed two runners on base, induced a groundout to Aranas to end the game. USC Aiken will host in-state foe North Greenville at 4 p.m., on Wednesday, then will close out next week by hosting their first Peach Belt Conference series of the 2009 campaign against nationally-ranked North Georgia. The series opens with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Lynn 000 001 000 -- 1 7 1 USC Aiken 000 000 03X -- 3 5 1
