GRANITEVILLE -- Funeral services for Mr. Willie James Dunbar will be held Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Runs Baptist Church, Beech Island. Burial will follow in the Chavous family cemetery. Mr. Willie James Dunbar was born on Nov. 28, 1932, in Barnwell County to William and Lizzie Moody Dunbar. He departed his life at the University Hospital, Augusta, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009. He joined the Union Branch Baptist Church at an early age and was affiliated with the Indian Grove and Mt. Anna Baptist Church. He attended the Barnwell County School System and Martha Schofield High School. He retired from the New York Transit Authority after 20 years of service as a motorman. He was united in holy wedlock to Beatrice Chavous Dunbar, who preceded him in death. To this union one son was born, William Luther Dunbar, who also preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing a special son, Dwayne Webb of Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Lucille Givens of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Leena Stallings of Conshohocken, Pa.; one brother, Abraham (Debra) Dunbar of Graniteville; a sister-in-law, Elouise Dunbar of Bath; two brothers-in-law, John Phinizy of Bronx, N.Y., and Delano (Delores) Chavous of Aiken; a devoted and loving friend, Grace Harrison of Aiken; four godchildren, Leihla, James and Clay Howard and Aharon Dunbar; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Friends may call at the residence of the brother, Abraham (Debra) Dunbar, 307 Duncan Road, Graniteville, or at the Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning at 3 p.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. The remains will lie in state at the church Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour or service.
