BEAUFORT -- Sarah Clarke Harley, 95, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009, at River Oaks Residential Care. Born in Estill, the daughter of the late Winburn Asa Lawton Clarke and Eleanor Carter Clarke. She was a graduate of Estill High School and received her teaching certification from the State School of New York in Farmingdale, N.Y. Mrs. Harley was in the teaching profession in Abbeville and Anderson counties for 25 years and also the assistant dean of women at Erskine College for four years. She was the widow of Clyde Suber. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a charter member of the Helen Eng Circle. She also was past president of the Mossy Oaks Garden Club. Mrs. Harley was predeceased by her husbands, Clyde Suber, Klein Reid and Heber Harley; her only daughter, Eleanor Suber Mason; and a granddaughter, Rebecca Mason. She is survived by three grandsons, Richard F. Mason of Virginia Beach, Va., Christopher C. Mason of Lake Alfred, Fla., William C. Mason of Daphne, Ala.; a stepson, Russell A. Harley and his wife, Catherine "Kitty" Harley of Beaufort; four stepgrandchildren, Anna Rawls Aycock of Brentwood, Tenn., Sandra Harley Counts of Anderson, Elizabeth Harley Willett of Atlanta, Ga., and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
