GREENVILLE -- Margaret Edwards Abercrombie died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at the beautiful age of 89. Margaret was born in Rome, Ga., the youngest of five children. Margaret moved to Greenville, S.C., with her husband Eugene Douglas Abercrombie in 1956. She dedicated 25 years of her career to Furman University where she retired in 1991 as the well known "Mrs. A." Margaret was a sincere and valuable friend. She cherished her family and treasured her friendships. Through her quick wit, generosity, wisdom and personal relationships, she inspired many people. She is survived by her children, Mike Abercrombie of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Mike and Julie Phillips of Aiken, S.C.; six grandchildren, Kirk and Keith Abercrombie of Colorado, Valerie and Tal Askins of Charleston, S.C., Matthew Phillips of Mauldin, S.C. and John Michael Phillips of Aiken, S.C.; and one great-grandson, Talmage Askins of Charleston, S.C. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, Greenville, on Dec. 14, 2007, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville. Margaret's heart desire was to help build a school for the orphans in Haiti.
