Entered into rest Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, N.C., Mrs. Frances Thompson Barnes, 71, beloved wife of 52 years of Mr. George D. Barnes Sr. of 106 Heatherway. She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Ola Stokes Thompson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Penland officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Barnes was a native of Wilmington, N.C., and had made Aiken her home for the past 36 years. She had been a legal secretary, retiring after 30 years of service. Mrs. Barnes attended Cedar Creek Church. Additional survivors include three sons, Duncan (Taressa) Barnes Jr. of Aiken, Randall (Annemarie) Barnes of Austin, Ark., and Barry (Florance) Barnes of Maumelle, Ark.; one daughter, Laurie Barnes (Tony) Rollins of Aiken; two brothers, Donald R. Thompson of California and James Allen Thompson of Smithville, N.C.; three sisters, Mary Parker of Smithville, N.C., Alice F. Blinson of Clayton, N.C., and Janice C. Smith of Wilmington, N.C.; eight grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Anthony Michael Rollins, Christopher Smith, Wayne Blinson, Michael Blinson, James H. Harris and Clarence Turner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association Memorial and Tribute and Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA, 23058-5216. Friends may call at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Laurie Rollins, 141 Bramble Ridge Road, Aiken.
