Woodworkers sale will benefit warrior project

STAFF PHOTO BY LARRY WOOD Handcrafted, wooden replicas of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and other holiday décor will be for sale Saturday at the second Crafters Sale sponsored by the Cedar Creek Woodworkers Club. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Aiken-Augusta Warrior Project.

Luggage racks, decorative reindeer with bright, red noses and paper towel holders for countertops will be some of the featured items for sale at the Cedar Creek Woodworkers Club second Crafters Sale on Saturday.

The show will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Cedar Creek Community Center, 2584 Club Drive. Proceeds will benefit the Aiken-Augusta Warrior Project.

“Everyone has been working very hard, and I think we’re going to have some really fine products again this year,” said club member Barry Urquhart, who took a break from working on a luggage rack in his garage. “I hope we’ll have a good turnout to help the Warrior Project.”

Last year, the club raised $2,500 for the Aiken-Augusta Warrior Project.

In addition to the featured items, the sale also will offer between 20 and 30 other items for indoors, outdoors and holiday decor, all handcrafted by the club’s members. Some of those items will include jewelry holders, wine bottle holders, quilt racks, wooden spoons with a matching cutting board, birdhouses and birdfeeders.

The club members’ spouses help with some of the projects, which include the “particularly popular” luggage racks, Urquhart said.

“They sold out at last year’s sale,” he said. “We already have four or five of them presold.”

All of the items will be stained and finished.

Baked goods will be for sale, and light refreshments will be served.

The club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to May.
