Threads closing on Laurens Street in downtown Aiken

Threads on Laurens Street in downtown Aiken will be closing late this year.

Threads will be closing soon in downtown Aiken.

Dec. 29 will be the final day of business at the women’s specialty boutique, which sells clothing, accessories and gifts.

Hollis Brown Thornton and his wife, Amanda, own Threads, which opened April 1, 2018.

“My husband is self-employed as an artist, and it is just time for us to focus on his growing business,” said Amanda in a telephone interview Nov. 29. “To me this is a positive thing for our family and his business. I don’t want it to be a sad thing. I want to kind of just have a celebration.”

Hollis Brown Thornton uses primarily acrylic paints and permanent markers to create his contemporary abstract works, which have appeared in exhibitions in Japan, France, Germany, California, Illinois, Missouri and Florida in addition to South Carolina.

Prices for items sold at Threads have been reduced.

“We’re starting off with a 20 percent discount, and eventually the discount will steepen as our end date gets closer,” Amanda said. “We’re going to play it by ear.”

Threads is at 108 Laurens St. S.W.
