Acoustic music will fill the streets of downtown on Saturday afternoon as pickers unite for a jam session. Roger Abernathy of Vintage Music has coordinated a series of open jam sessions, inviting musicians and music lovers alike to join in the experience. The jam sessions will be held on the first Saturday of every month in front of Vintage Music along Park Avenue. "Last month was the first time we held a jam session, and we had a good turnout with about 15 to 20 players and about 25 to 30 people listening," said Abernathy. "People driving by would roll down their windows and some pulled over, pulled out chairs and listened." The jam session will get underway around 10:30 a.m. and will last well into the afternoon. It is designed to be a time to showcase acoustic talents. "Anybody who wants to come and play is welcome," said Abernathy. "It's just a jam for bluegrass musicians to come out and jam with other musicians. There will be a bunch of pickers and several bands like Flatland Express. We hope to have double the turn out. We encourage people to come and listen and recognize acoustic music is building. Bring the kids and listen to two or three hours of playing. A lot of players don't get a chance to play out to the public that often, and this offers the perfect chance." There is no charge for the jam session, simply bring a chair and/or an instrument and step into the shade and enjoy. Call Vintage Music for more information at 644-8399.
