The Kaps 4 Kids Team from the Denizens of the Deep Base of the United States Submarine Veterans Inc. will celebrate its 500th visit to the Children's Hospital of Georgia.

On Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Children's Hospital lobby there will be a celebration for the Honorary Submariners the team has visited. All Honorary Submariners and their families are invited to attend.

The Kaps 4 Kids team has recruited nearly 2,500 Honorary Submariners during the past 11 years. During visits to children in the hospital K4K members present a personalized certificate showing the children are an “Honorary Submariner,” a photo of a WWII submarine – the USS Bowfin (SS-287) which is now a museum submarine in Pearl Harbor – and a pink or blue baseball cap with Submarine Dolphins and “Honorary Submariner” on it.

Parents of very young children are given homemade blankets.

U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. exists to insure the memory of the 52 boats and 3,500 men lost during WWII never fades. As the K4K Team SubVets all came ashore in the 1970s, they show a 5-minute video on submarining today.
