Leslie Gouge, owner of Pitter Patter Children's Botique, is offering a walk down memory lane at her store this summer with Beach Blanket Bingo.

Pitter Patter is hosting the game, which is a free event for ages 6 to 12, starting today. It will last from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and will run on each Tuesday of the month.

“I have very fond memories of going to bingo with my grandparents and playing it in the car with my brother on trips,” said Gouge. “I'm hoping to share my enjoyment of the game and introduce it to a whole new generation.”

According to Gouge, the game favors the familiar Bingo style, but with a “beach-themed” element that makes it more ideal for kids. That element includes a variety of ways to win, ranging from the traditional methods of winning vertically, horizontally and diagonally, to more non-traditional methods, including four corners and full cards.

Pitter Patter will also be offering prizes for the winners. Each child will receive a nametag card. With each victory, the winner will receive a hole punch on the card, which is good for $1 in the store. At the end of each night, kids will be given one of two options: they can either cash their winnings in for prizes under $5 that will be offered during the bingo sessions, or they can save their winnings and use them to make a larger Pitter Patter purchase.

In addition to the prizes, the Pitter Patter staff feels that the game offers a more interactive alternative that keeps children active and away from the summer heat. They also feel that bingo represents one of many classic games that many kids never get to enjoy.

“Beach Blanket Bingo is a great way for kids to escape the summer heat and get lost in something other than their iPods or Xboxs,” said Leslie. “We hope they'll find that classic games can be fun, too.”
