SPARTANBURG -- A 23-year-old South Carolina man has been arrested and charged in the beating death of his live-in girlfriend's 11-month-old child. Authorities say Rashawn Shameik Murphy was being held at the Spartanburg County jail Monday on charges of homicide by child abuse. Police say Murphy's girlfriend had left her daughter, Parris Samiyia Rogers, with Murphy when she went to work Friday night. The child was found unresponsive Saturday morning. An autopsy showed the baby suffered head injuries and a broken leg. Two other children in the home were unharmed. Jail officials did not know if Murphy had an attorney or when he would have a bond hearing.
