Public Safety investigating reported armed robbery at Kangaroo Express

Aiken Public Safety is searching for an armed robbery suspect who allegedly took an undisclosed amount of money from a Kangaroo Express on Thursday night.

Capt. Martin Sawyer, of Aiken Department of Public Safety, said at approximately 9:15 p.m. a black man, armed with a silver handgun, came into the Kangaroo Express at 318 Hampton Ave. N.W. and demanded money.

The man took an undisclosed amount and left on foot, Sawyer said.

Police said the man is around 5 foot-10, wearing a camouflage jacket with a hoodie, dark pants, black shoes, black gloves or mitts, with a dark face mask and glasses.

The Aiken bloodhound tracking team was on scene as of press time Thursday, according to Sawyer, who said the robbery remained under investigation.
