Aiken Public Safety is investigating an early morning holdup at a Kangaroo Express on Richland Avenue. About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, a gunman walked into the store and approached an employee while she was cleaning up for the evening and held something to the back of her neck. She said he ordered her to open the cash register and then took her into a back room and fled from the store. Witnesses arriving at the convenience store told police what they saw. The first witness told police he was about to walk into the store when he saw the suspect, dressed in black, run out of the store and toward the back of the building. A second witness said he was pulling his vehicle into the parking lot at the store when he saw the same man flee the store. Police have pulled security camera tape, but on Tuesday had not released any details about the case. The gunman is described as a black man between 20 and 30 years old. He was wearing a black hat, black T-shirt, black jeans and white sneakers. The incident is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Aiken Public Safety at 642-7620.
