Police continue to investigate fatal shooting

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that left one man dead at Willis Hill Road on Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies were dispatched to Willis Hill Road and Wire Road after receiving two 911 calls about shots being fired around 1:21 p.m. Wednesday, according to a press release provided by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrived on scene to find one man, identified as Frank Frazier Jr., 23, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Frazier was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

An autopsy is schedule for Friday in Newberry, Carlton said.

Witnesses told deputies that they saw a black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt fleeing the scene on foot on Willis Hill Road.

Investigators made contact with two individuals, one white male and one white female, at a gas station on S.C. Highway 19 and Shiloh Heights Road who confirmed that they were victims of an attempted robbery at the incident location, the release states.

It was determined that the two victims were at the incident location to purchase a car from an ad on Craigslist, and they met with two black males on Willis Hill Road, according to the release.

The two males then allegedly produced weapons and demanded money causing the female victim to draw her own weapon and shoot at the suspect, who was pointing his weapon at her boyfriend, the release states.

The other suspect reportedly fled the area, while the victims got back into their vehicle, called 911 and went to S.C. Highway 19 to wait for deputies.

Deputies are still searching for the second suspect.

Sheriff’s investigators, the Aiken Bloodhound Team and the Aiken Department of Public Safety were called to the scene to assist with the search and investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that this continues to be an ongoing investigation.
