ORANGEBURG -- Authorities say a 62-year- old man has died after a fire at his home. Authorities told The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg that the first officers to get to the fire Friday afternoon pulled 62-year-old Sidney Smoak out of the home. Neighbors say Smoak didn't have a pulse when he was rescued, and they could not resuscitate him. Authorities say Smoak used oxygen tanks, and that caused several small explosions. Officials say the cause of the fire is being investigated.
