A company spokesperson announced Aldi will open next month. Heather Tarczan said construction on the site is right on schedule and nearly complete for a March opening of the discount grocery store, which is located on Whiskey Road between Lowe's and Hobby Lobby. The roughly 17,000-square-foot store is on three acres and signage is up. According to Aldi's website, shoppers can expect to find select brand products at the store that cost up to 50 percent less than big brand name products. Many items - like meats, dairy products, frozen foods, produce and beverages - will have the Aldi brand name. Aldi stores carry about 1,400 regularly stocked items. Beer and wine are available on a store-to-store basis. Typical Aldi stores have a shopping cart deposit system where customers use a quarter to retrieve a cart. The quarter is refunded to the customer when they return the cart at the end of their shopping trip. Aldi also encourages customers to bring their own bags when they shop or buy the store's paper, plastic or insulated bags for a "nominal" charge. Every week Aldi reveals anywhere from 20 to 30 "special purchase" items, which are available for a limited time and as supplies last. These items can include seasonal food items, small kitchen appliances or bed and bath items. Previously, Aldi has offered clock radios, kiddie pools and storage bins.
