The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has released more information about the death of the 3-year-old who was shot at a home on Oxpens Road in Warrenville this past week.
Chavous McKinley IV, 3, was fatally wounded Monday evening after a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest, according to the police report.
Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Oxpens Road around 6:47 p.m. after getting a 911 call from the complainant who said a child had been shot, the report states.
Investigators reported seeing the complainant in the front yard doing CPR on the victim and the victim's mother was sitting nearby.
The victim had a cloth on his chest, and the complainant stated the wound was under the cloth, police reported.
Deputies then asked about the location of the gun, which the victim's mother said was in the front room of the home, the report states.
Police entered the residence and found two handguns sitting in the middle of the floor of the first room, the report states.
The two guns were picked up to keep them from a second juvenile at the scene, police reported.
EMS arrived on the scene and transported McKinely and his mother to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
One of the guns found at the scene was a Glock 42 .380 caliber with a spent casing in the chamber with blood on it, while the second gun was reported to be a Glock 19 .9 mm still in its holster, police reported.
Capt. Eric Abdullah, with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, said police are seeking "no charges" against the victim's parents at this time.
The Aiken County Sheriff's Office is still investigating this incident alongside the Aiken County Coroner's Office.
