Arrests warrants were released Monday in the case of a local basketball coach accused of having inappropriate contact with a student.

First-year Midland Valley High School girl's basketball coach did communicate with an underage student to solicit sexual activity in December, according to an arrest warrant provided Monday.

Thirty-four-year-old Paul Kenneth Quiller Jr., of Graniteville, turned himself in to police Saturday and was taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he was released that same day.

Quiller is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, according to a jail records.

An arrest warrant provided Monday by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office says on Dec. 9, 2016, Quiller did "knowingly communicate with a minor under the age of 18 ... 17 years of age at the time, for the purpose of persuading, inducing, enticing, or coercing the victim to engage in a sexual activity."

The warrant states the incident took place at Midland Valley High School, 227 Mustang Drive in Graniteville.

Quiller's arrest was a result of an investigation by the Aiken County and Richmond County sheriff's offices, according to a press release on Sunday.

The Aiken County Public School District said Sunday officials uncovered allegations of inappropriate contact with a female student involving Quiller in early January, which led to an immediate internal investigation, during which the coach and the alleged victim denied having any inappropriate contact with one another, whatsoever.

District officials interviewed a number of people at the school, and said while there was no evidence to support the allegations, Quiller was told to have no further contact with the student.

But in early February, the District says officials uncovered new information and the student recanted her previous story, adding that allegations of inappropriate behavior were true.

"We are extremely disappointed and upset by the nature of the allegations, and we will vigorously support the future prosecution of this case," the District said in the release.

Quiller had served as the girl's varsity basketball coach for less than a year, and had worked in other school district capacities since 2013.

Information regarding Quiller's bond amount and whether he has an attorney were not immediately available.
