20 indicted in Pee Dee drug trafficking ring

FLORENCE — Twenty people from the Pee Dee have been indicted in a conspiracy to distribute heroin.

Attorney General Alan Wilson tells local media outlets that the state grand jury returned indictments naming residents of Darlington, Florence and Williamsburg in a conspiracy to bring heroin from New York and distribute it in rural South Carolina.

The grand jury returned the indictments last week.

Conspiracy to distribute more than 28 grams of heroin carries a penalty of up to 40 years in prison.
