Dozens of congregations and thousands of individuals are on board locally for Operation Christmas Child, also known as "the shoebox ministry" for its custom of sending small boxes loaded with gifts and a basic Bible message for children in some of the world's most impoverished countries. Donations are being received at a variety of churches in such communities as Aiken (Cedar Creek), North Augusta (TrueNorth and Sweetwater Baptist), Bamberg (Trinity United Methodist), Barnwell (Calvary Baptist), Ridge Spring (Mount Pleasant Baptist), Edgefield (First Baptist) and Jackson (Matlock Baptist) daily through Nov. 25.These scenes are from the evening of Nov. 18 at Cedar Creek Church.
