Set in rural South Carolina is the upcoming Aiken Community Playhouse show “Fruitcakes.”

The Christmas play is directed by Dave Howard and will be held at 7:30 p.m. today, as well as Dec. 4, 5, 11 and 12.

The play will continue at 3 p.m. Sunday and Dec. 6 at the AECOM Center for Performing Arts, 126 Newberry St. S.W.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for ages 60 and older, $12 for students and $7 for ages younger than 12.

Donations of nonperishable food items will be collected for Golden Harvest Food Bank, 81 Capital Drive.

“Mix together a batch of fruitcakes, three dozen Christmas trees, 10,000 outdoor Christmas lights, a chicken pox epidemic, two Southern spinsters, an estranged old man, a lost cat and a Christmas hog, and you’ve got the recipe for a fun-filled and touching evening of holiday cheer,” the play’s description states.

The play is written by South Carolina director, designer and playwright Julian Wiles.
