A vacant lot along East Pine Log Road near the Banks Mill Road intersection could soon be home to a Dollar General.

Requests and documents submitted to the City of Aiken's planning branch reveal Jordan Trotter Commercial Real Estate is pursuing the necessary permits and approvals needed to erect a Dollar General along the 900 block of East Pine Log Road.

"We feel the daily and weekly consumables the store will sell will be a great addition to the neighborhood," Dennis Trotter wrote in an Oct. 11 letter to the Planning Department. The letter is attached to a request for city water service, which will be considered by the Planning Commission on Tuesday night and then forwarded to City Council.

The real estate firm represents Dollar General in the Aiken-Augusta metropolitan area, according to the letter.

The lot in question is about 3.15 acres in total. The store itself will be an estimated 9,100 square-feet, according to Planning Commission briefings.

Drawings included in the service request packet depict a northern entrance – a single one – and two parking lots that straddle the prospective discount store.

The East Pine Log Road lot is currently zoned urban development, an area characterized by expected growth and mixed-use development.

According to Planning Commission documents, city water service is available at the lot; sewer is not. A septic tank will be needed.
