Warm your heart this winter by helping a military veteran stay warm. Lane Parker, commandant of Marine Corps League Detachment 939, said he recently received a phone call from the Aiken Veterans Affairs clinic asking for assistance in providing coats to the clinic's patients. Parker is glad to help and hopes members of the community will be, too. "This is something we need to do to repay a debt to these folks," Parker said. Marine Corps League Detachment 939 will be in the parking lot of the clinic, 951 Millbrook Ave., on Friday starting at 10 a.m. to collect coats from those wishing to donate. "They can be new or used coats - clean and in good repair," Parker said. "If they want to bring other articles of clothing that would be great, too. A lot of our guys don't have coats. They're on a fixed income and can't do much. Help our veterans out." Forecasters say this has been a colder than average winter with overnight lows averaging in the 30s.
