The deadline to purchase advance general admission tickets and Mega Passes to the Western Carolina State Fair is Wednesday. Advance admission tickets are $5 and Mega Passes are $25 but must be purchased online, by phone or in person at a participating business before the close of business on Wednesday. Ride tickets are sold separately. Mega Passes include gate admission and are good for unlimited rides on any one day. General admission tickets purchased at the gate are $6. The Western Carolina State Fair opens Thursday for 10 days of rides, music, fair food, shows and more. All concerts and events in the Bridgestone Arena, like the Demolition Derby, are free with paid gate admission. Gates open at 5 p.m. on weekdays and noon on the weekends. Parking is free. On Thursday, Jeff Pike & the A1A Band will perform live on the Bridgestone Arena main stage at 6:45 p.m. The A1A Band is the founder of the Parrot Head Club. A WKSX 92.7 Pre-Parrot Head Party will start at 6 p.m. Pre-party tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate and include VIP area admission, concert viewing and complimentary beer and food until 7 p.m. On Friday, songwriter/recording artist Colt Ford will take the stage at 7 p.m. Ford earned a Country Music Award nomination for Song of the Year with "Dirt Road Anthem," which he co-wrote. It turned into a No. 1 hit for country music star Jason Aldean. Reserved seating tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. All-day events include the Circle "C" Petting Zoo and arts, crafts and horticulture exhibits. New this year is the children's Firefighter Training Show where kids will be encouraged to practice life-saving skills like "don't hide, get outside," according to the show's website. Volunteers from the audience become the firefighters in each show. There are two shows Monday through Friday, and three shows Saturdays and Sundays. The Demolition Derby starts at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 on 27 in the Bridgestone Arena with the Demolition Finals to be held Oct. 29. The Ugly Redneck Truck Contest will start at roughly 8 p.m. during the Demolition Figure 8 Race on Oct. 27. Rides include the Dutch Wheel (outfitted with LED lights), Zipper, Tilt-a-Whirl, Scrambler, Sling Shot, Wild Mouse Coaster, Merry Go Round and Fun Slide. Children's rides include the Tea Cups, Choo Choo Charlie, Helicopter and Mini Indy. Food vendors will have candy apples, funnel cakes, Sno-cones, cotton candy, popcorn, pizza, corn dogs, hot chocolate and more.
