The Wear Orange event in The Alley in downtown Aiken on Saturday had a serious purpose, which was to raise awareness about gun violence and gun safety.

But it also provided an opportunity to have some fun.

Children could color and make bracelets. In addition, other activities included a series of doughnut-eating contests.

Without using their hands, participants each had to eat a dangling doughnut.

A prize was awarded to the first person to finish his or her doughnut.

It was a messy challenge, and the competitors had a variety of techniques. Some tried to take big bites while others nibbled.

Some lunged quickly to try to catch their doughnuts with their mouths. Others where more deliberate, studying the movements of their swinging doughnuts before sinking their teeth into them.
