Columbia man arrested after allegedly assaulting Aiken girlfriend and her juvenile daughter


Aiken Department of Public Safety officers arrested a Columbia man Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted his 39-year-old Beech Island girlfriend and her juvenile daughter at a Richland Avenue motel.

John Anthony Adams, 44, of 7648 Sumter Highway, is being held at the Aiken County detention center on charges of third-degree domestic violence and third-degree assault and battery.

The victim claimed she and Adams were arguing and he started to punch her in the back of the head, according to a report provided by Public Safety.

The victim’s juvenile daughter witnessed the altercation and attempted to intervene when Adams allegedly hit her on the left side of her face, according to the report.

An officer reported observing injuries on the two victims.

Officers found Adams in the Roses parking lot nearby and arrested him, the report states.
