CONWAY — Authorities are investigating the shooting death of a Coastal Carolina University student at an apartment complex near the university’s campus in Conway.

A university official tells local media outlets that the 21-year-old man who was shot and killed Wednesday night was a student at the university. His name has not been released.

Investigators say the shooting happened about 7 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex where mainly students live. The complex is within walking distance of both Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Coastal Carolina issued an alert Wednesday night asking that students stay inside after a blue pickup truck was seen leaving the area. The alert was lifted about four hours later when officials said the area was secure.

No arrests have been reported.
