The South Carolina Department of Public Safety charged an Aiken woman Tuesday in connection to a fatal collision on Augusta Road in Warrenville.

Kala McKubbin Gantt, 30, is charged with driving under the influence where death results, driving under suspension, uninsured motor vehicle fee violation and possession of suspended, cancelled or revoked cards, according to jail records.

She was originally identified as Kala Haskell following the incident, but after being arrested, the Aiken County detention center has identified her as Kala Gantt, records show.

South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a motorcycle and car on the 1400 block of Augusta Road in Warrenville around 5:40 a.m. on Tuesday, where 26-year-old Tron D. Lampkin, of Augusta, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Lance Cpl. Judd Jones, with Highway Patrol.

Lampkin was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle south on Augusta Road, when Gantt, driving a 2004 Nissan, pulled out of a private driveway in front of Lampkin and attempted to head north on Augusta Road, Jones said.

Lampkin, in an attempt to avoid the collision, brought the motorcycle down and crashed into the car, investigators reported.

Gantt and a passenger in her vehicle were taken to Aiken Regional Medical Centers with non life-threatening injuries, while Lampkin was pronounced dead at the scene, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Following an investigation, Gantt was arrested Tuesday around 1 p.m. and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where she was still being held Thursday afternoon.

Highway Patrol has not announced how they determined Gantt was driving under the influence at the time of the incident.
