The Aiken woman accused of leaving her 2-year-old child alone at her Joshua Lane home earlier this month has been taken into custody.

Grecia Lopez, 30, of 118 Joshua Lane, is charged with unlawful conduct toward a child; she is being held at the Aiken County detention center.

On Nov. 8, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Lopez’s residence after the neighborhood landlord called police to report her 2-year-old child was left alone in the home, according to a report provided by the Sheriff’s Office.

After deputies placed the child into the custody of one of Lopez’s neighbors, one neighbor told deputies he and his wife walked to the residence to get the child because they saw the baby crying inside with no supervision, according to the report.

The couple proceeded to walk through the dark house with a flashlight looking for the child’s mother, but realized she wasn’t there, the report states.

Once Lopez arrived on scene, she told deputies she had tried to take her child to her mother’s home, but no one was there; instead, because she had to go to work in Columbia, she left the baby at home alone, according to the report.
