An Aiken County man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he reportedly shot a woman and barricaded himself inside a house, forcing a five-hour standoff with police, according to the Aiken County Sheriff's Office.

Carlos Allen, 41, has been charged with attempted murder and kidnapping, according to the Sheriff's Office and related jail records.

On Tuesday night, Sheriff's Office deputies went to 603 Hazel Drive in Aiken for a well-being check. The family of a woman requested the check, saying the woman was being held there "against her will" by Allen, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies eventually found the woman hiding in the woods near 603 Hazel Drive; Allen had shot her in the leg, the Sheriff's Office said.

The woman was taken to a hospital in stable condition, officials said.

When police made contact with Allen at the house, he barricaded himself inside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Aiken County SWAT team took Allen into custody after about five hours.

Allen was taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he remained as of Wednesday.

Allen has charges dating back to 1990, including charges related to guns, drugs and kidnapping, according to jail records.
