This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The United States Secretary of Defense was granted approval from Congress to commemorate the anniversary of the war throughout the year by supporting and encouraging local events. The Henry Middleton Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a Vietnam 50th commemorative partner, has requested the help of churches, businesses, schools and citizens to mark this event. On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, Aiken churches are requested to ring their bells in remembrance at 1:50 p.m. At the same time, Aiken businesses, schools and citizens are asked to observe a moment of silence in honor of Vietnam veterans and all United States veterans.
