The 2018 Memorial Day Parade is 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown Aiken. For more information, visit

American Legion Post 153 in Langley will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bath Memorial Veterans Park. There will be a guest speaker and patriotic music. All veterans and their families are invited.

An Introduction to Airbrush 101 class will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Art & Soul of Aiken, 208 The Alley. The course will cover single vs. double action, basic airbrush maintenance, air supply concerns, fundamentals of spraying, paints/inks, basic spray issues, compressor suggestions, gravity vs. suction feeds, mediums and airbrush cleaning. Cold Creek Nurseries will hold its annual Memorial Day Cook-Out from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature live music, hot dogs and strawberry ice cream made from Gurosik's strawberries. The Hopelands Concert Series will be held Mondays through June. The Aiken Civic Ballet will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, May 28, at the Roland H. Windham Performing Arts Stage at Hopelands Gardens, 135 Dupree Place. Lawn chairs and blankets may be brought, as well as picnic dinners, non-alcoholic beverages and well-behaved pets on leashes. Guests can park at the Green Boundary Club, 780 Whiskey Road. Handicap parking is available at the Rye Patch parking lot on Berrie Road and the Hopelands Gardens parking lot. In case of inclement weather, the performances will be moved to H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road. Only service animals are allowed in Odell Weeks. A Memorial Day service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at Aiken/Jessamine Memorial Gardens, 625 Allison St. The day will include a presentation of the flag by the Aiken High ROTC Color Guard, a speech from Commander Claude Davis and a performance of the national anthem. 

The North Augusta Memorial Day ceremony will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wade Hampton Veterans memorial Park, 226 Georgia Ave., North Augusta. The Jesse C. Lynch Memorial Post 71 of the American Legion will conduct the ceremony. Captain Patrick County, commanding officer for NIOC Georgia Command Task Force 1050 at Fort Gordon will be the featured speaker. Also participating will be the Fort Gordon Navy Choir, the North Augusta High School NJROTC Drill Teams and the Post 17 Ceremonial Corps. Representatives of area veteran and service organizations will lay memorial wreaths. The ceremony will be held at American Legion Post 71, 333 East Spring Grove Ave., North Augusta, in the case of inclement weather.

Southlawn Cemetery & Mausoleum is seeking volunteers to place American flags on the graves of veterans in honor of their sacrifice. Flag placing will begin at noon on Monday. Volunteers also will be needed on June 4 at noon to help remove the flags. 

The Marine Corps League James L. Hammons Detachment No. 939 will hold a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at the Aiken County Veterans Memorial Park, 1435 Richland Ave. E. Linda Caldwell, Vietnam War veteran and a captain in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, will be the keynote speaker.
