Betty L. Abbey


Funeral services for Mrs. Betty L. Abbey, 75, of Bunting Drive, North Augusta, who entered into rest Oct. 13, 2007, were conducted Saturday morning at the Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home. Interment was in Sunset Memory Gardens.


Mrs. Abbey was a native of Jackson, Mich., having made North Augusta her home for the past 37 years. She was a Baptist and wife of the late Mr. Kenneth L. Abbey.


Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Harold K. Abbey and Gary L. Abbey, both of North Augusta, and Dale R. and Phyllis Abbey, New York; a daughter and son-in-law, Tera and Chris Meadows, Martinez; two brothers, Bob Demary, Jackson, Mich., and Dale Demary, California; a sister, Shirley Soat, Jackson, Mich.; seven grandchildren.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening.

Janie Fulmer Barton


Entered into rest Monday, afternoon, Oct. 8, 2007, Mrs. Janie Fulmer Barton, 75, daughter of the late Allie and Elma Barfield Fulmer.


Born in and a lifelong resident of Aiken County, she retired Graniteville Company where she was a battery filler after 21 years of service. She was a member of Stiefeltown Baptist Church.


Surviving are a sister, Margaret Berrie, Stiefeltown; granddaughter, Melissa Lewallen, Edgefield; and great-grandchildren, T.J. and Crystal Perkins and R.J. Lewallen.


Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, with Pastor Mike Shanlian officiating. Interment followed in the Warrenville Cemetery, Warrenville.


The family received friends Wednesday evening, Oct. 10, 2007, at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley.





Phillip W. "Buck" Corbett Jr.


Mr. Phillip W. "Buck" Corbett Jr., of Coventry Court, North Augusta, entered into rest Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007.


Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in the chapel of Rowland Funeral Home with Dr. Roy L. Head and the Rev. Wesley Gregory officiating. Interment was at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta, Ga.


Pallbearers were Joe Corbett, Bill Maddox, Fred Pierce, Joe Muns, Ernest McPeake and Jesse Meadows.


Honorary pallbearers were members of Mr. and Mrs. Corbett's Sunday School Class and the retired and active members of the Augusta Fire Department.


The family received friends at Rowland Funeral Home Friday evening.


Mr. Corbett was a native of Orangeburg County and had lived in the North Augusta and Belvedere area since 1985. He was a U. S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.


Mr. Corbett retired from the Augusta Fire Department in 1985 after 44 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Belvedere First Baptist Church and the Will Whatley Sunday School Class.


Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Vera T. Corbett of North Augusta; one son, Phillip W. Corbett III of North Augusta; two daughters, Amelia C.P. Azar of Augusta and Betty C. Muns (L. Edward) of North Augusta; three grandchildren, Athena Pagnotti (Vito), Benjamin Nelson and Maria Azar; two great-grandchildren, Victor Pagnotti and Demitria "Demi" Azar.

Toni Renee Boise


Memorial services for Mrs. Toni Renee Boise, 48, of Jefferson, Ga., who died Oct. 9, 2007, were conducted Tuesday evening at the Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with Dr. Gary C. Redding and the Rev. Ty Lochridge officiating.


Survivors include her husband, Russell Boise; one son, Tyler Guidot, Jefferson, Ga; and her parents, H. G. "Howard" and June Rosier, North Augusta.


Toni was a graduate of Michigan State, received her Master's Degree and was most recently working on her PhD in Psychology from the University of Georgia. She spoke three languages fluently. Toni was the Director of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program for five Georgia counties. She was frequently in the Courtroom on behalf of her clients.


Toni and Russ had been married for three years on Sept. 26, 2007. She was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and fought a courageous battle. Toni was preceded in death by her good friend Austin Brown.


The family received friends at the funeral home following the service.

Bennie Canada


Graveside services for Mr. James Benjamin "Bennie" Canada, 55, of West Martintown Road, North Augusta, who died Oct. 12, 2007, were conducted Monday afternoon at Pineview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. J. Lloyd Prince officiating.


Mr. Canada was a lifelong resident of North Augusta. He was a retired Auto Body Repairman, son of the late Martin Canada and Anna Lee Chavous and he was a Christian.


Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Lisa Canada, Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Jason Heath, Aiken; and companion, Christine Miller.


Pallbearers were Rodger and Becky Edmonds, Forrest Edwards, John Holloway, Timmy Bailey and Ronnie Pinon.


The family received friends at the funeral home Monday. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Jeancake, Margie Lane on Sudlow Lake Road, North Augusta.

Ruth Easterling


Memorial services for Mrs. Ruth Easterling, 84, of Pine Bark Lane, North Augusta, who entered into rest Oct. 14, 2007, will be conducted Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from the Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home with Chaplain Lynda Sims officiating.


Mrs. Easterling was a native of Sturgis, Miss., having made North Augusta her home for the past 27 years. She was a Baptist.


Survivors include three sons, George Bradley and Julyes Bradley, both of North Augusta, and Jake Bradley, Warrenton, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Allen Brown, North Augusta, Peggy and Jesse Blurton, Anchorage, Alaska, Marie and David Yates, Trenton; a brother, Charles "Sonny" Fondren, New Hope, Miss.; four sisters, Peggy Nichols, Caledonia, Miss., June Lancaster, Columbus, Miss., Mary Alice Ellis, Mobile, Ala., Marie Ward, New Brunsfield, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.

Rubye L. Webb


A funeral service for Rubye L. Webb, 93, widow of James W. Webb, of Columbia, was held Friday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2007, at Belmont Baptist Church with The Rev. Harry S. Girtman officiating Burial followed in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. The family received friends Thursday evening at Shives Funeral Home. Mrs. Webb died peacefully Oct. 9, 2007. Born April 13, 1914, in Phenix City, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Walter Lee and Alma Mae Lumpkin Long. She graduated from Auburn University in 1936 with degrees in Home Economics and Early Childhood Education. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church and a former member of Denny Terrace Baptist Church. While at Denny Terrace Baptist Church she acted as church treasurer and superintendent of the Junior and Adult Sunday School Departments for more than 25 years. In addition, she was an active choir member and soloist, pianist and organist.


Mrs. Webb was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 65 years and a former member of the Columbia Choral Society.


Survivors include sons, W. Robert "Bob" and wife, Pat Webb, of Cayce, James W. Jr. and wife, Trish Webb, of Hitchcock, Texas, John A. and wife, Kathy, Webb, of Columbia; daughters, Carolyn V. Webb of Columbia, Rubye "Bettye" and husband, David Pullen, of North Augusta; grandchildren, Christopher Webb and wife, Lee; Patrick Webb and wife, Linda; Renee King; Bryan Webb and wife, Stephanie; Amy Gunwall and husband, Ryan; Tara Webb; Daniel Pullen; Kenneth Pullen; Laura Jones and husband, Shaun; Sara Holland and husband, Matt; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Velna Bell; brother, Leland L. Long and wife, Veda, of Auburn, Ala. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter L. and Herbert Bruce Long.





Ernest Eugene 'Bo Diddy' Fail


Entered into rest Sunday, morning, Oct. 14, 2007, at the University Hospital, Augusta, Ga., Mr. Ernest Eugene "Bo Diddy" Fail, 67, son of the late Bennie and Daisy Mikell Fail.


Born in Aiken County, he had been a resident of the area for most of his life. Affectionately known as "Bo Diddy," he retired as a truck driver from S & P Grading Company.


Surviving are a daughter, Susan Powell (Steve Arthurs) Warrenville; brother, Alfred Fail, Ridge Spring; sister, Betty Ann Manual, Ridge Spring; granddaughter, Trudi Mikell (David); and great-grandchildren Brittany Williams, Harley Williams, Robert Williams and David Mikell Jr.; seven nieces and seven nephews.


Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 17, 2007, at 3:30 at Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Langley, with Pastor Chris Williams officiating. At his request "Bo Diddy" will be cremated following the funeral service.


The family has asked that memorials be made to Helping Hands or the Cumbee Center.

Billy Luther Vaughan


Entered into rest Wednesday night, Oct. 10, 2007, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Augusta, Ga., Mr. Billy Luther Vaughan, 74, son of the late Charlie Luther and Bertha Hughes Vaughan and devoted friend of Ruby McCoy, Augusta, Ga.


Born in Winchester, Tenn., he had been a resident of the area for most of his life. Billy retired as a construction worker and was very gifted in the area of woodworking. A veteran of the Korean War, he proudly served his country in the United States Army as a medic.


Surviving are his children, Christine Ingram (Terry), Texas, Vicki Rolland (Jimmy), Wichita, Kansas, Teri Lynn Vaughan (Kevin Berry), Augusta, Ga., Billy Luther Vaughan (Chrystal), Oklahoma, and Tony Ray Vaughan, Oklahoma; brother, Carl Vaughan, North Augusta; sisters, Lodema Jenkins, Aiken, Roberta Ferguson, Aiken, Linda Thomas (Hubert), Pickens, Pat Warren, Atlanta, Ga., Sybil McCurry, Abbeville, and Judy Couch (Johnny) Mauldin; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.


Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, Oct. 13, 2007, at the graveside in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, with Pastor Terry Ingram officiating. Military honors were accorded by the United States Army Honor Guard.

C.T. Watson Jr.


Graveside services for Mr. Clyde Thomas "C. T." Watson, Jr., 44, of Marsella Avenue, Martinez, Ga., who entered into rest, Oct. 13, 2007, were to be conducted Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock in Sunset Memory Gardens with Dr. Kenneth Klingler officiating.


Mr. Watson was a native of Jackson and a former resident of North Augusta, having made Martinez his home for the past 15 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, and of the Steamfitters Local Union 150. Mr. Watson was the son of the late Clyde T. Watson Sr.


Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Nellie and Jim Hiers, North Augusta; three sisters, Linda McDonald Bennett and Cindy Clark, both of Jackson, and Judy Hall, Salley; two stepsisters, Yvonne Tilley, Jackson, and Linda King, Clarks Hill; fiancé, Judy Usry, Martinez, Ga.; fiancé's children, Jonathan Powell and Jessica Powell, both of Martinez.


Honorary pallbearers were to be members of the Steamfitters Local Union 150. Active pallbearers were to be Jamie Adams, David Evans, Nick Bennett, Jamey McDonald, Stevie Clabey and Linton Lee.


The family received friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening. The family was to be at the residence of Jim and Nellie Hiers, 102 Yucca Ave., North Augusta.
