Marvin F. Atkinson


Mr. Marvin F. Atkinson, 88, entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at the Medical College of Georgia.


His funeral service was held on Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. Heyward Horton and Mac Grizzard officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Hill Cemetery.


Mr. Atkinson was a retired barber and an ordained minister. He served as an interim pastor for area churches since 1947 and received a degree in pastoral ministries from the Southern Baptist Theology Seminary. He was also a member of the Aiken Baptist Association for 64 years, a life member of Acacia Lodge 315 AFM and Belvedere Lodge 388 AFM and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Atkinson was the first historian of the North Augusta Historical Society.


Mr. Atkinson is survived by a special friend, Catherine Kairnan of North Augusta; one daughter, Joyce A. Brumbeloe of Augusta, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Jane Jones of Augusta, Ga., and a number of grandchildren.


Pallbearers were Larry Kitchens, Robert Kitchens, Joe Heyward, John Wood, John Rice and Justin Hastings.

Frances M. Carter


Mrs. Frances Marvin Carter, 87, of Courtney Drive, North Augusta, entered into rest Dec. 7, 2009.


The family will have a private memorial service.


Mrs. Carter was a native of Walterboro, having made North Augusta her home for the past 60 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and wife of the late Mr. Clyde V. Carter


Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Donnie and Iris Carter of Belvedere; a sister, Valda Massey of Palatka, Fla.; four grandchildren, Carol Stalls, Ronnie Carter, Hollie Gillespie and John Carter; 10 great-grandchildren.

Joseph E. McDaniel Jr.


Funeral services for Mr. Joseph E. McDaniel Jr., 62, of West Eighth Street, Louisville, Ga., who entered into rest Dec. 3, 2009, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Louisville First Baptist Church with the Revs. Hardy G. Owens and Andy Carter officiating. Veteran's honors were accorded. Private interment was in the Louisville City Cemetery.


Mr. McDaniel was a native of Louisville and a former resident of Reidsville, Ga. He was a member of the Louisville First Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and a retired correctional officer with the Georgia State Prison at Reidsville with 34 years of service.


Survivors include his wife, Cindy Darlene McDaniel; a son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Angela Curl of Collins, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Tisha and Bob Holland of Collins, Ga.; two sisters, Flora Parker of Niceville, Fla., and Florence Lord of Davisboro, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and stepchildren, Garrett Clavier, Dalton Clavier and Samantha Clavier.


Pallbearers were Willard Sikes, Earl Sikes, Larry Sikes, Stevie Smith, Kenny Claxton and Tony Smith.


The family received friends at the church prior to the service. The family was at the residence of Florence Lord, 508 Lee St., Sandersville, Ga.

Margaret F. Glover


Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Franklin Glover, 88, of Ocala, Fla., who entered into rest Dec. 5, 2009, were to be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church with Father David F.O. Thompson officiating. Interment was to be in the Graniteville Cemetery.


Mrs. Glover was a native of Graniteville and a former resident of North Augusta, having made Ocala her recent home. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Paul Glover Sr., and her son, Herbert Paul Glover Jr.


Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Robert Hickson of Ocala, Fla.; a daughter-in-law and her husband, Kay and Ned Baynham of North Augusta; a sister, Mildred Horne of Thomasville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Bonnie Glover Barr and Daniel Paul Hyatt; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Kaitlyn Barr.


Pallbearers were to be Richard Sligh, David Sligh, Terry McLane, Bill Shiver, Bob Tate and Tommy Wooten.

Cheryl Hartley Tant


Graveside services for Mrs. Cheryl Hartley Tant, 45, of Lehigh Avenue, North Augusta, who entered into rest Nov. 29, 2009, were conducted Friday afternoon in the Graniteville Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Jarrard and Dr. Robert L. Collum officiating.


Mrs. Tant was a life-long resident of North Augusta and was a Christian. She was a caring person who loved to sing and was known for her thoughtfulness in sending cards to people. Mrs. Tant was a dedicated parent volunteer with Mrs. Gracey's third grade class at Belvedere Elementary. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert "Bobby" Hartley.


Survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Tant of North Augusta, Robbie and Tracey Tant of Augusta and Matthew Tant of North Augusta; her mother, Dorothy Hartley of North Augusta; a sister, Christy Hartley of North Augusta; a granddaughter, Kaylee Tant.

Patrick Andrews


Mr. Patrick Andrews, 47, entered into rest Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at University Hospital.


His funeral service was held on Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Rowland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Hatfield officiating. Burial followed in Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Edgefield.


Mr. Andrews was a mechanic at International Paper and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.


Mr. Andrews is survived by two daughters, Whitney LeeAnn Andrews of Augusta, Ga., and Lindsey Elizabeth Ferguson and husband Wesley of North Augusta; one son, Patrick Edward Andrews of Augusta, Ga.; his significant other, Kiz Malpass of North Augusta; five brothers, Michael Andrews and David Andrews, both of New York, Stephen Andrews and William Andrews, both of North Carolina, and Robert Andrews of Georgia; three sisters, Rosemary Walsak and Laurie Warner, both of North Carolina, and Jeanne Marie Andrews of New York; three grandchildren, Makenzie Taylor Andrews, Rydley Houston Andrews and Nataley Brooks Ferguson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Andrews is preceded in death by two sisters, Cathy Andrews and Deborah Dean.


Pallbearers were his son and brothers. Honorary pallbearers were employees and friends from International Paper.

Frances Cassels


Private family graveside services were held for Mrs. Frances Cassels, 94, of Jackson, who entered into rest Dec. 5, 2009.


Mrs. Cassels was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Michael Cassels III.


Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Wallace B. and Diann Cassels and J.H. Cassels, all of Jackson; a daughter, Frances Lane of Martinez; two grandchildren, Angie Lane of Pooler, Ga., and Wesley Lane of Martinez.

Herman O. Drummond


Funeral services for Mr. Herman O. Drummond, 89, of North Augusta, who entered into rest Dec. 5, 2009, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Posey Funeral Chapel with Dr. Paul W. Noe officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.


Mr. Drummond was a life-long resident of North Augusta and was a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from the DuPont Company at the Savannah River Site.


Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Iris Hendrix Drummond; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry O. Drummond of Monette, Ark., and Andy and Debi Drummond of North Augusta; a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Mark Grego of Johns Island; a sister, Dorothy "Dot" Lewis of Aiken; three grandchildren, Bryan (Ann) Drummond, Keli (Brad) Hopkins, Kim (Gerry) Saggus; eight great-grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.


Pallbearers were Larry Drummond, Andy Drummond, Mark Grego, Bryan Drummond, Brad Hopkins, Gerry Saggus and Roy Barnes.

Ginger Jones Hall


Funeral services for Ginger Jones Hall, 28, of Fifth Street, Jackson, who entered into rest Dec. 2, 2009, having lost her battle with cystic fibrosis, were conducted Saturday morning at the Jackson First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Jennings officiating. Interment was in Jackson Memorial Cemetery.


Ginger was a life-long resident of Jackson. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and attended TrueNorth Church.


Survivors include her husband of seven years, Michael Cory Hall; her son, Toby Slade Hall of Jackson; her parents, Mark Steve and Kathy Jones of Jackson; a sister and brother-in-law, Julie Anne and Jason Corley of Jackson; grandfather, Alvie R. Jones of Blue Ridge, Ga.; a niece, Isabella Corley; a nephew, Sawyer Corley; her husband's parents, Mike and Rhonda Hall and their children, Casey Hall and Colton Hall, all of Jackson.


Pallbearers were Jason Wiggins, Jason Hyer, Colton Hall, Chuck Taylor, Todd Taylor and Matt Taylor.


The family received friends at the funeral home Friday evening. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jason Corley, 116 Ace Court, Jackson.

Johnny Curtis


Graveside services for Mr. John W. "Johnny" Curtis II, 50, of Tisdale Street, Jackson, who entered into rest Nov. 30, 2009, were conducted Thursday morning in the Jackson Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Allen Cantrell and Dr. Finley Limehouse officiating.


Mr. Curtis was a life-long resident of Jackson, attended Jackson Bible Church and was employed by Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site in maintenance. He was the son of the late Bill and Ruth Curtis.


Survivors include two brothers and their wives, Quentin Curtis and Jacqueline Parham and Bobby and Stephanie Curtis, all of Jackson; a sister and her husband, Sandy and Kenneth Rich, Jackson; three nephews, Jacob Curtis, Will Curtis and Kenneth Rich Jr.; three nieces, Allicia Nordeen, Tamara Mirkel and Carrie Ruth Thomas.


Pallbearers were Joel Bennett, Pat Sullivan, Terry Lucero and Melvin Weathersbee.

David Scott Waldrop





Memorial services for Mr. David Scott Waldrop, 74, of Leigh Place, North Augusta, who entered into rest Dec. 7, 2009, were to be conducted Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Grace United Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. James C. Adams officiating.


Mr. Waldrop was a life-long resident of North Augusta and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and owner of Scott Enterprises.


Survivors include his son, David Scott Waldrop Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; his daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Paul Hudson of North Augusta; two grandchildren, Amelia Grace Mottel and Zachary Scott Mottel; his companion, Diane Harley of North Augusta.


The family was to receive friends at the church following the service.
