James A. Peterson
AIKEN, S.C. – James A. Peterson, Sr., 90, passed away at his residence. Mr. Peterson was born in Winslow, IL, to the late Mr. O.A. Peterson and Mrs. A.E. Peterson. In 1945 he married Jean B. Peterson. He is survived by Regina (Jean) B. Peterson, wife of 67 years, brother – George Peterson, Houston, TX, sisters – Mary Margaret Strickland, San Antonio, TX, Ruth P. Gerdes, Chattanooga, TN (deceased) and two children, James A. Peterson, Jr. (Deborah) Columbia, SC and Elizabeth Ann Sauerborn (Paul), Aiken, SC, grandchildren – SSgt Andrew T. Peterson (Renee), Kailua, HI, Elizabeth Sauerborn Colombo (Andy), Pittsford, NY and Adam C. Sauerborn (Brittany), Webster, NY., Great grandchildren – Kayden Colombo, Kenzie Colombo and Gavin Peterson. Mr. Peterson was raised in Texas with his brother and sisters. He enlisted into the United Stated Marine Corps in 1940, and participated in various campaigns in the South Pacific including the battle of Iwo Jima. Upon an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he and his wife settled in Texas, eventually moving to Pottsville, Pa. where he was business administrator for the Pottsville hospital. He eventually joined the Tremco Manufacturing Company as a sales engineer in 1952 and settled in Aiken in 1953. He retired after a 32 year career with that company in 1984. His retirement years were consumed with his church, Trinity United Methodist Church and his family. Additionally, he valued the association he had with the James L. Hammons detachment of the Marine Corps League, the Third Marine Division Association, The U.S.S. Augusta Association and the World War II Marine Corps Drill Instructors Association. Mr. Peterson donated his body to the Medical College of Georgia. A celebration of his life is scheduled for 11:30 am, August 15, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Whiskey Road, Aiken, SC Memorials can be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the James L.
