MYRTLE BEACH -- Saturday was a case of all-star game Armageddon.

The North pounded the South 42-3 in the 63rd annual SCADA North-South All-Star Football Game on Saturday afternoon in front of about 5,000 fans at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. It was the second-most lopsided game in the event's history. The South's 46-0 victory in 1950 was the most decisive game, but Saturday's wasn't that far behind. The officials used a running clock in the fourth quarter to ease the South's pain.

Things were all downhill after the coin flip. The North dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and outgained the South 303-108 in total yardage, limiting the South to 21 yards on the ground on 32 carries.

The North forced seven turnovers, including five interceptions to record its seventh straight victory and ninth in the last 10 games.

The South's offensive effort was so anemic that Brookland-Cayce kicker Caleb Kelly was named the South's offensive MVP. He accounted for his team's only points with 39-yard field goal.

Berkeley coach Jeff Cruce, who led the South squad, said his team's offensive woes could be traced to earlier in the week when Bishop England quarterback Danny Croghan suffered a hamstring injury.

"We moved a kid over to quarterback that we originally picked as a defensive back. We just couldn't get it going. Up front, they dominated the line, and they just put us in a bind."

East Clarendon's Carlos Hickson moved from defense to offense and threw two interceptions early in the game. A.C. Flora quarterback Stephen Cagle was 5-of-17 passing for 55 yards and threw two interceptions. Croghan, who led the Bishops to the Division II-AA state title last weekend, completed 2 of 5 passes for 11 yards. He threw an interception.

Chris Robinson scored on a pair of 1-yard runs and Jordan Hallums caught two touchdown passes to lead the North.

Robinson, a running back from Seneca High School, finished with 75 yards on 13 carries to earn the North offensive MVP award.

Hallums, a wide receiver from Mauldin High School, caught touchdown passes of 18 and 22 yards.

Greer High School quarterback Reese Hannon completed 5-of-11 for 55 yards and two scores, while Strom Thurmond quarterback Raleigh Yeldell passed for 103 yards and another score.

Blackville-Hilda coach David Berry was pleased with the North's defensive effort.

"The kids we have down here are very athletic," he said. "They are real quick, can run and that's what we wanted to do: put a lot of quick people on the ball and play good defense."

Daniel defensive lineman Shaquille Lawson was the North's defensive MVP. He logged five tackles and had 2 1/2 tackles for a loss, including two sacks.

Myrtle Beach defensive end Tyler Knox was the South's defensive MVP. He was credited with 10 tackles, including 2 1/2 for a loss.

North Augusta's Montez McGuire caught one pass for 21 yards for the South, and fellow Jacket Vinny Miller chipped in 8 rushing yards on seven carries while catching two passes for a yard. For the North, Williston-Elko's Rokeem Williams rushed one time for 2 yards and caught a 56-yard pass. Strom Thurmond offensive lineman Chris Herrin was also on the North squad.
