Premier Martial Arts was on the move last week, and now the staff is working itself into its new home.
The studio is still located at 401 W Martintown Road, but moved down a few suites. In the old location the studio was bursting at the seams. Now, with some extra room the studio has been able to expand to include, among other things, a pro shop, a lobby, offices, an area for bags and rooms for after school activities and birthday parties.
To kick things off on Saturday, Master Aaron Hensley invited Jackson Rudolph, one of the top bo staff users in the country. Rudolph, who is only 15 years old, hails from Paducah, Ky., and is known for a series of YouTube videos. Following a series of visits in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia he flew out to Los Angeles to film a pilot for a television show.
"He came in and taught a two-hour seminar, and then he taught three hours of private lessons," Hensley said. "I was impressed by a 15-year-old being able to command an audience. It’s intimidating to go somewhere you’ve never been before and work with people you’ve never worked with before. That’s intimidating for an adult, much less someone who is 15 to come in and do that."
For his part, Rudolph felt honored to have the chance from Hensley.
"My family and I had a great time in North Augusta. Mr. Hensley’s new location is awesome," he said. "Excellent layout for a karate school. The Hensleys were great hosts and I really appreciate them inviting me to do the seminar. The PMA students were fantastic. There are some very talented students at Mr. Hensley’s school."
When asked what his favorite part of the studio was, he was able to reply without hesitation.
"Just the energy here," he said. "That’s what martial arts is all about."
