Belvedere-area residents have a new shopping option in place, at 132 Kerr St., a few yards from Edgefield Road.
"We have an excellent selection of food and grocery and freezer items," said Andrew McKnight, the Family Dollar store manager. "Other than that, we have pretty standard fare."
McKnight’s team includes four employees: assistant managers David Wells and Patricia Jones and cashiers Takesha Seth and Sabrina Rogers.
After several months of construction on the former site of several other businesses, Family Dollar had its "soft opening" April 28. The official event was April 30.
Grand-opening shoppers included Jessica Tilly, who lives a block away. She said she expects to see "a lot more people coming around the same area, and it’s going to be real convenient, because ... you can come right here instead of walking all the way down to Bi-Lo or something."
The extra traffic may be a pain, but easy access to a store is welcome, Tilly said.
"It was a pleasure to have new and modern construction in our community, and a needed building that provides our wants and needs for our daily lives, and to have pleasant people in our community," said Brenda Corley, who was also among visitors at the grand opening.
