Summer Concert Series to feature N.A. idol winners, Signal Corps Concert Band

The 2013 Music in the Park Summer Concert Series is coming up, and it's sure to bring some joyous noises to North Augusta.
"We will have all types of music that can appeal to a variety of audiences," said Carol Terry, chairman of the Music in Arts Commitee. "We will have an Army band, jazz music, beach music, vocalists and bluegrass.
"Each of the concerts are held on Thursday nights from May 16 through July 25 at 7 p.m. each night. There will be no concert on July 4. All concerts are free and sponsored by the City of North Augusta and the North Augusta Cultural Arts Council.
All of the concerts, with the exception of the 246th Army Jazz Band and Art Show on July 25, will be held at The Verandah at the Maude Edenfield Park, located on East Buena Vista Avenue. The July 25 concert and art show will be held at Grace United Methodist Church's Wesley Center.
"We wanted to give free outdoor concerts to the people of the area that could appeal to a variety of people, especially different age groups," Terry said.
The first night will consist of the Ft. Gordon Signal Corps Concert Band. They will play a variety of music that will include some "patriotic marches."Another band performing will be R2D1 on May 23 and Savannah River Brass Works on June 20.
On June 6, winners of the 2013 North Augusta Idol will perform.
All of the concerts are expected to last about an hour. If it rains, concerts will be moved to the North Augusta Community Center.
